The Mt. Everest of Psalms
Psalm 103 may be the "Mt. Everest" of praise psalms. This psalm is also known as the Psalm of David. This is a psalm of individual praise.
An excellent verse for indicating the extent of God's forgiveness is Psalms 103:12: "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." David is expressing his view of the mercies of God. It is obviously written out of gratitude toward God for his longsuffering in individual shortcomings. It is great that our God is tolerant toward us when we fall short.
During this Lenten season, many of us give up something or start something new. For me, I use this time to remove sweets from my daily diet. As with David, I praise God but ask for strength to fight off my shortcomings – sweets in particular. Whatever path you chose – to give up or take on – praise be to God!
