John 4:43-54
In today’s readings, I was moved by the story in John 4. In reaching out to heal the dying son of this Roman official, Jesus demonstrates that faith and obedience to God is rewarded by God’s love and caring in our world, and that this love and caring is available to all through faith.
For me this passage in the Gospel of John reflects parental love as shown by the officer for his son and in God’s healing love for us. Parental love, which is not just biologically connected, can be shown by those who are not necessarily our parents.
As a health provider for young children in a school, I often see parental love exhibited by adults for children not their own. I see it in the caring instruction of a teacher, in the guidance of a coach, or in the direction of an arts instructor. I am sure all of us have experienced parental love from people other than our parents. Who in your life has shown you such love?
