Within this collection of stories, reflections, and writings, you will find windows into the mystery of God. Members and friends of our parish have written pieces for use as devotionals in this season of Lent. Most all of the works are original, and they range from poems to personal stories to reflections on scripture. Some will evoke tears or laughter, while others may not do much for us at all. The pieces are as unique as the writers, and they may not resonate with everyone, which is fine. But it is my hope that with each daily entry we will all find some way to connect with God.

My thanks to those who contributed to this project. It takes courage to offer something publicly as we have done with this collection. I know that some of you have gone well outside your comfort zone to reflect spiritually on parts of your life or to share ideas that you have treasured for yourself. I also want to thank Tiffany Ayers who used her skills as an editor to put this collection together and catch all of our typos and literary bobbles.

I pray that each of us would find this Lenten Season a holy and special time.

In Christ’s Peace,

DO Try This at Home

Man, it’s cold outside, and there is nothing better in the evening than to curl up with a blanket and a good book. Going outdoors at this time of year after dinner is usually not on the top of my list. But we have been fostering two adorable puppies for the last few months, and they need to go out on a regular basis. So before bedtime every evening at 10:30, out come the leashes and the warm jackets, preferably with hoods. Out we go!

Even though the wind blows and the temperatures have at times been frigid, these walks have turned from a real chore to a very special time. Not much is moving outside that late. No cars, no people, no barking dogs at other houses. It’s a beautiful time to be still, look at the trees and sky, and really enjoy the peace of it all. No other time of day is quite like this.

I always wondered how to visualize the Holy Spirit, and I realize now that it is just like my jacket. My jacket warms, protects, and comforts me on those cold nights outdoors. Now my jacket is a constant reminder of the All Mighty, every time I put it on, night or day.

So, even if you don’t have late night dog duty, go put a jacket on – preferably one with a hood – and go outside tonight to feel God’s Peace. Go!
